Four Horsemen’s Toypocalypse Opening
Last night I visited Toy Tokyo for the Toypocalypse opening. This retrospective of the Four Horsemen’s work (website, Twitter) was a blast, and in addition to all of the great toys on display I also got the chance to meet Steve Talkowski, DaveGittleman, Eric Nocella Diaz, and Rob Losito. A really great time chatting with these guys while looking at toys.
The show was packed with amazing Masters of the Universe toys — including giant 2-up pieces that would have benefited by having the production-release figures next to them to show scale — new Outer Space Men action figures, DC Universe Classics figures, and completely new Symbiotech designs I didn’t see at San Diego Comic Con last year (I really drooled on this line last year.)
This new Symbiotech line looks cool as hell and the more I see of it the more I can’t wait to buy every release in the series. Damn, this thing is so cool it makes me want to approach the Four Horsemen for information on the series; this might make an awesome license for a card game . . . or hell, a miniatures game with pieces sculpted by the Horsemen.
But regardless of the story behind the toys, I really want this line. Impressive work and I love the color choices. And I’ve gotta say congrats to the Horsemen for a fantastic opening.
Thanks for the pics Phil!
The bigSymbiotec beasties appear to be covered in Glyos-ports. Neat!
New OSM wave looks great as well, and I really want Cy-clone now.
Symbiotech does look cool. It’s a shame the Horsemen couldn’t work on a property like Sym-Bionic Titan which would appeal to kids and could be in a main stream toy aisle.
@Newt – I wish Cartoon Network would grab the Symbiotech line and make a series. But then I’d just be happy knowing something about the backstory behind the line . . . and happier still getting the toys!
@Seth L – I could see this Symbiotech line being much bigger than the Outer Space Men toys. The figures look great and the Glyos-compatibility brings that crowd in as well.
