Review – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ooze Scoopin’ Donnie

Playmates’ latest wave of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys (Amazon.com search*) are showing up in stores and today we’re looking at the Ooze Scoopin’ Donnie action figure, part of the Mutagen Ooze series.

So far I’ve already reviewed two toys in the series — Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ooze Launchin’ Leo review here and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Sewer Cruiser review here — and with Donnie so close to Leo I can tell you now that this review will be more pics than words.

Articulation

In my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ooze Launchin’ Leo review I mistakenly said that the toy only had three points of articulation — swivels at the shoulder and a ball-jointed neck — but once I had Ooze Scoopin’ Donnie open I found a waist swivel. The Leo had a fused waist, but once I knew the joint was there I managed to break it loose and now both toys have identical points of articulation.

While the new Donnie has fewer points of articulation than the first Donatello action figure in the line (review here) the added gimmick of flinging ooze kinda makes up for the reduction in articulation. And as with Ooze Launchin’ Leo (review here) the toy doesn’t come with any ooze but it does come with plastic ooze droplets.

Another New Sculpt!

I expected the figure to be the same basic sculpt as Ooze Launchin’ Leo (review here) . . . and I was wrong! Playmates is treating the line as the success it is and every detail is new; even the backpack is a new sculpt and not simply a reuse of the Leo toy’s backpack. Closing Thoughts

Basically the same figure as Ooze Launchin’ Leo (review here), the Ooze Scoopin’ Donnie is not as strong as the first wave of Turtles action figures but it’s still a neat toy and the gimmick is one I fully expect kids to love. This continues to be a great toy series and the amount of faith Playmates placed in the line before it even reached stores is impressive. Now to see what they do next!
