“Fantasy games capture imagination” in 1980
July 20, 1980. This 1980 newspaper article by Terry Kirkpatrick comes at the early edge of the Dungeons & Dragons craze of the eighties, before the game was a household name and before the collapse of D&D as the eighties wore on. This is a fairly basic introduction to the concept of “fantasy role-playing games,” and quotes both Gary Gygax and the Compleat Strategist owner Mike Kilbert. Truly a snapshot of the roleplaying game industry from before the boom led to the bust.
