G.I. Joe Meets Jurassic Park
My very first thought when flipping through the UK Action Force book, Return of the Dinosaurs, from Ladybird Books (Amazon.com search*), was that the book was published after Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park* novel. Nope! Crichton’s book was published in 1990 and Return of the Dinosaurs was published in 1987.
That means Cobra Commander cloned dinosaurs before Crichton’s book, making the world just a little stranger when we trace dinosaur cloning fiction throughout the years. The below scan of two pages from the book lets you follow along as Cobra Commander prepares to unleash the terror of dinosaurs on the world. What’s sad is how very close this comes to giving us a blend of G.I. Joe and Dino Riders.

I’m 90% sure Judge Dredd fought cloned dinosaurs before this, in “The Cursed Earth” saga. Surprising amount of detailed backstory in that one, so Dredd can fight a cloned tyrannosaur.
What’s sad is that Cobra Commander and Destro appear to have a better safety system than Jurassic Park!
