Kenner Toy Prototypes in “The Making of Star Wars” Documentary
Originally aired on ABC on September 16, 1977, the one-hour The Making of Star Wars documentary (on YouTube, Wikipedia entry) gives us a look behind the scenes of the creation of the first Star Wars film. Fantastic stuff, and even though I cannot remember watching this exact documentary before last night I must have seen many of the shared clips over and over because everything felt just a little bit familiar.
In a fun “blink and you miss it” segment on merchandise we get a look at Kenner prototypes for the Landspeeder, TIE Fighter, and X-Wing toys. I love the prototype and toy info shared in Star Wars – From Concept to Screen to Collectible*, and everything shown in Gus and Duncan’s Guide to Star Wars Prototypes* is amazingly fun, so I am sure it comes as no surprise that I went back and caught screenshots of the toys shown in the documentary.
Enjoy the images, and here’s the documentary if you’ve got an hour and want to get a look at Star Wars from a more innocent time.
