Review – Hot Wheels Prototype H-24
Released to the world in 2008, the Hot Wheels Prototype H-24 (Amazon.com search*, at southtexasdiecast.com) mixes a metal body and plastic chassis to great effect, giving us a warped car design that could only come from the Hot Wheels team. My favorite feature? Definitely the design of the front of the car . . . but we’re getting too much info too quickly so let’s slow things down a bit.
Awesome Lines!
The Hot Wheels Prototype H-24* is angular and mean, with low profile windows that give it a menacing look. The fat tires in the back add to the aggressive appearance of the car, and that front end (which I’ve mentioned already) almost has a Batmobile-like quality to the design. In fact, if we were to replace the twin wings on the tail with sweeping batwings and decorate the car in black it would make a great Batmobile.
Way Too Bright to be a Batmobile
Take a look at the photos and I think you’ll agree that this Hot Wheels Prototype H-24* is far, far too colorful to work as Batman’s ride. I’m not sure what made the Hot Wheels designers select this insanely bright orange for so many of the toy cars’ wheels, but it’s a great look and I applaud their sense of color design. Why can’t I go to a car dealership and buy a car with similar colors right now?
Closing Thoughts
It’s never easy to find something bad to say about Hot Wheels cars. Between the quality and love Mattel sinks into the toy cars and the $1 price point . . . well, let’s just say that it’s impossible to find a better toy than a Hot Wheels car for the money. And when designs and colors like this Hot Wheels Prototype H-24* are in stores that only makes things even more challenging for everyone who wants to compete with Mattel in the diecast car market.
With over 13 released to date the Hot Wheels Prototype H-24* shouldn’t be at all difficult to find, but if you try and grab all 13 you’ve only yourself to blame when the hunt gets challenging. Don’t get greedy, folks, and just grab one of these. There are plenty of other great Hot Wheels cars out there for you to enjoy (just be sure to leave some for me).
