SBA Comments on “Careers for Girls” in 1990

I know there’s a lot of buzz these days about gender neutrality in toys (see “Target will stop labeling toys for boys or for girls. Good.”), but I would like everyone to stop and consider just how far things have gone in the last few decades.

Do you need proof that the toy aisle is less sexist today than it was years ago? Well, this 1990 Associated Press newspaper article talks about a Parker Brothers game at the time, Careers for Girls (BoardGameGeek entry). In that game the careers open to players were super mom, schoolteacher, rock star, fashion designer, college graduate, and animal doctor.

Things really have come a long way.
