1940 Superman Trading Cards from Gum Inc.
“Kids could trade seventy-two different Superman picture cards, just as they did baseball cards or comic books.”
–Larry Tye, Superman: The High-Flying History of America’s Most Enduring Hero*
This past weekend I’ve been re-reading the incredibly-fun Superman: The High-Flying History of America’s Most Enduring Hero*, a book that any Superman fan or lover of comic books really should consider grabbing. It was in the book that I was again reminded of those old 1940 Superman trading cards, so a quick internet search soon happened and I found myself enjoying the (small images of the) cards at cardboardconnection.com.
Unfortunately, the images at the site are small and merely links to eBay. Some digging around online leads to collectibleresource.com, but even then we don’t get much in the way of images of the cards.
Okay, I have thought of another classic trading card set I’d like to see collected into a small hardcover book . . .
