1959: Play-Doh and the Milwaukee Sentinel
Okay, this was a bit of a surprising find. I was already familiar with the history of Play-Doh (find at Amazon.com*) — mostly through the story as told in Timeless Toys* — but uncovering this June 11, 1959 newspaper article in the Milwaukee Sentinel added an entirely new level of experience to my understanding of Play-Doh.
Reading of how the wallpaper cleaner transformed into a toy in the Timeless Toys* was entertaining, but reading this news segment somehow makes it all the more real for me. There’s something about the reporting nature of newspapers vs. the storytelling of the book that really drives the tale home in my brain.
