1974 Fisher-Price Play Family Newspaper Advertisement
Commonly known as Little People these days, when this King’s ad ran in the December 18, 1974, Morning Record newspaper the series was identified as Play Family toys. What this means is that when I was a kid with the barn, house, school bus, and other well-known toys I was actually playing with Play Family toys and not Little People toys. So why do I always think of these older toys as Little People?
Well, according to the Wikipedia entry the Little People trademark “came from Fisher-Price following the lead of consumers who referred to the early Play Family playsets as ‘those little people’.” Is it possible that even at five or six I was calling these “little people” toys even when that wasn’t the true name? Weird.
