1977 Mattel Space: 1999 Eagle

We looked at a 1976 newspaper ad for the Mattel Eagle I spaceship toy last week where the toy was priced at $13.99. Today, in order to keep the toy fresh in our minds, I’d like you to take a look at the same Eagle spaceship in a 1977 newspaper ad where the price is down to $8.88. It’s looking to me as if this toy didn’t perform all that well at retail, but that’s pure speculation. I guess I’ll have to find several more ads to know exactly what the sales curve for the Eagle looked like in the seventies.
