1977 Newspaper Ad Featuring Mattel’s Pulsar and Ideal’s Electroman
The success of Star Wars in 1977, combined with the lack of official action figures that Christmas, led to a lot of sci-fi toys on store shelves. This 1977 newspaper ad features just a few of the toys trying to ride the sci-fi wave that year, as Mattel’s Pulsar and Ideal’s Electroman were available and parents were buying space toys left and right to silence the kids. Kenner’s official Star Wars toys made it to stores in the spring of ’78, but fortunately the window meant toys like this had a chance to find homes.
Awesome ad and a great look at an important time in toy history!
