1978 Ad for Palitoy’s Commander Power (Hasbro’s Super Joe)
I’ve written about Hasbro’s Super Joe line of the seventies before (2013 feature post), and today I’d like to share an advertisement from the Star Wars Weekly magazine where we see Palitoy’s take on Super Joe. Known as Commander Power, Palitoy brought a small number of the Super Joe figures and accessories to the UK, running the line at the same time that they continued their Action Man series.
To learn more about the Commander Power toys I suggest checking 3dsuperjoes.com.

I had Commander Power, Shield and Gor. They were great figures. Gor often used to team up with the Intruder (the Adventure Team villain), who – scale-wise – seemed a better fit with the 8” figures, all under the leadership of the evil Muton (the 8” scale-down of King Walder from the Henshin Cyborg line.)
Of course, I had no idea that these toys could actually all trace their lineage back to the 12” GI Joe line (which I didn’t even know existed) but it’s so interesting to look back now and see just how many of my childhood favorites were actually cousins of a sort…
Hey thanks for the link to the 3D Super Joes site. That add looks great – cool find! What issue of Star Wars Weekly was that in? I would love to get an original copy for my collection.
