1978 Hostess Cakes Includes Baseball Cards!
Comic ads in the seventies specifically targeted kids, showing off things that any little boy (because, to be honest, the majority of comics at the time were aimed at boys) would love to have. That’s where this 1978 ad comes into the picture showing both Hostess cakes and baseball cards. The cards were printed on the boxes — three cards per box — and it was up to us to cut the cards out.
With 150 cards in the set I’m betting it wasn’t easy at all to assemble a full set of these cards. It would take 50 boxes to complete a set of the cards; just how many kids were going to eat their way through 50 boxes of cakes in a single summer?
