1978 Starlog Magazine and Alan Dean Foster
I remember the first time that I read Splinter of the Mind’s Eye* when I was a kid. At the time, all I cared for was Star Wars, and for a few years there the only Star Wars stories any of us had were the comics and first couple of novels. Alan Dean Foster’s Splinter of the Mind’s Eye* wasn’t quite as fun as Han Solo at Stars’ End*, but it was still a great story and gave us a new look at Force powers in action.
A great line from this Starlog article solidifies the idea that Splinter of the Mind’s Eye* was — at one time — a welcome part of the Star Wars universe.
“Although Splinter is officially being tagged as being the sequel to Star Wars, it is not the story that is already in production for the film Star Wars II.”
Man, it would be awesome if Disney selected some of these older stories and produced direct-to-video animated movies. Seeing Splinter of the Mind’s Eye* as a traditionally-animated film would be an amazing treat.
