1980 Ad for TSR’s Top Secret RPG

Way back in the early eighties, back when TSR was making a killing with their Dungeons & Dragons line of roleplaying games, several companies were producing RPGs for all sorts of genres in an attempt to capture an audience and make lots of cash. Even TSR was devoting resources to entirely different roleplaying games, and that’s where this ad for the Top Secret game (find at Amazon.com*) comes in. I played this game a little in the late eighties (this version, not the later one), and can remember some fun times were had using just that boxed set and our imaginations.

TSR may have been trying too much for a while there, but at least games like Top Secret came out of all of their experimentation. I’ve not looked inside this box in over twenty years, leaving me wondering if the contents are as good as I remember them.
