1980 AMT Star Trek Model Kit Ad
In 1978, Lesney Products — makers of Matchbox toy cars at the time — bought out AMT and models kept hitting shelves with fans not really noticing the change. Isn’t it weird how corporate changes and owner changes never really mattered to us as kids; in 1986 I always thought of Kenner as the exact same company that it was in 1983, but the reality is that it was an entirely new company. I guess it took becoming an adult to even start to notice the corporate landscape of the toy industry.
Oh. Right. Star Trek. From issue #17 of Shogun Warriors and 1980 we get this awesome Star Trek model kit ad. Man, I remember seeing this ad as a kid and just loving it. I was never all that into models, but I do know that I was always into ads and art. I guess that’s part of why I am at where I am today.
