1981 Dungeon Boardgame Ad from Boys’ Life
This ad from the February, 1981 issue of Boys’ Life magazine pre-dates my own experiences with the Dungeon boardgame by about nine or ten months. Maybe more. Things are a little fuzzy from that time, but considering that I turned nine in 1981 it isn’t all that surprising that I have a tough time nailing down the exact date that I first played the game.
Regardless of the specifics of my own life, this ad is a great example of how TSR was trying to leverage the success and cashflow of the Dungeons & Dragons game to reach a new audience of potential consumers. I love how the ad shows a happy family playing the game!
