1982 “Star Wars is Forever” Flyer from Kenner
After all of the work I put into Each Sold Separately and Action Figures Not Included you might think I’ve had enough of action figure marketing. Well, as long as I keep tracking down bits of information from the past I find that I just get more and more interested, and recently I’ve been locating some fairly cool retailer-targeted materials that makes me think a third book may be in my future.
Today I’m sharing scans of a 1982 Kenner promotional flyer that I received a few days ago. This single sheet (folded in half) covers Kenner’s Star Wars plans for late 1982 and even touches on the 1983 Revenge of the Jedi plans. This sort of stuff is even cooler than the consumer-targeted marketing materials because I never saw this when I was a kid. All of the retailer-focused ads and marketing items I’m finding were an unknown for me during the eighties, and that makes each and every piece completely new once I get my hands on it.
I love how the flyer promotes the Star Wars Micro Collection series as well as the standard 3.75-inch scale action figures. Add on the $10 million in advertising and commercials for over 50 Star Wars toys and it’s no wonder all I could think of during those days was Star Wars; the franchise was everywhere we looked!
