1985 and the Greatest Jetfire Advertisement Ever!

Okay, maybe it’s not the greatest ever, but this 1985 JC Penny ad features one hell of a fantastic look at the Transformers Jetfire toy. That line artwork of the toy is incredible, the quality of the newspaper image is as great as we can hope for, and just looking at this makes me remember playing with Jetfire over three decades ago. All that comes together to make this one hell of a find.

  1. My childhood memories of Transformers are a mix of extreme happiness at the figures I did get and melodramatic despair over the ones I didn’t. Jetfire was firmly in the second category. I clearly remembering being in the hospital for several days after having my appendix removed. The kid in the bed next to me received Jetfire for a gift and I was horribly jealous. I asked my Mom to bring in the most similar Transformer I had so I could at least drown out some of my misery. That was the less impressive but-at-least-still-a-jet Thundercracker. However, Mom forgot to bring in his fists and I was stuck in my hospital bed with only the lameness of a handless robot to play with. Meanwhile, my neighbor happily transformed his new, hands-included Jetfire. Oh, the ignominy!
