1987 Transformers Technobots vs Terrorcons Commercial

The 1987 Transformers Technobots (TFWiki) and Terrorcons (TFWiki) were some of the last of the “Scramble City” combiners of the eighties, and this toy commercial teases us all with the promise of what could have happened in the US if the original Transformers cartoon had continued.

The Terrorcons are still one of the cooler of the Generation One teams; it’s a shame we haven’t had a modern update to these five robot monsters.

  1. It’s always bummed me out that the G1 Transformers cartoon didn’t last as long as the toyline, like G.I. Joe had (barring some time in the middle, I think). It would have been great to see the post-1987 Transformers characters get their due on screen. For one thing, I would have loved to have seen how they handled Actionmasters. They would have been forced to bring some deceased characters back to life, like Prowl. Even with their transformation powers sapped, it would have been cool to end on a season with some of the original characters. I know the Japanese cartoons somewhat continued G1, but I don’t really count those as the same continuity.

  2. And now to be even more pedantic, let me point out that the Terrorcons and Technobots did appear in the G1 cartoon. lol

  3. Terrorcons were great toys! I only had Hun-Gurrr, but as one of the few TF’s I got new (as opposed to second hand, which most of my younger toys were), I appreciated him a lot!
