1988 G.I. Joe Steel Brigade Offer

Everyone remembers the G.I. Joe Steel Brigade mail order figures from the eighties, right? Hasbo used parts from various G.I. Joe action figures (see yojoe.com for details) and added a new head, creating a special figure where you got to name the character and even devise a unique file card.

Hasbro promoted the hell out of this idea, advertising in comic books and inserting the below flyer into their 1988 line of G.I. Joe toys. I’ve never had one of these old Steel Brigade figures, but the offer was spread so far and wide that it’s one I’ll always remember.
