1989 Transformers Classic Pretenders Toy Commercial
In 1989, Hasbro took four classic characters and revived them as Pretenders, robots inside fleshy shells that were reportedly a disguise of some sorts. Take a look at the TFWiki page if you’re unfamiliar with the toys, or just watch this incredible commercial that has animation we never got to see in those Transformers Generation One cartoons.
Man, seeing this animated sequence again makes me miss that Hasbro isn’t creating commercials like this today. I suspect kids would still get excited by a cool traditional animation scene in a toy commercial, but never having done focus testing on the idea all I can assume is that Hasbro has done the work and the kids of today don’t like this style. Sigh.
