1993 Inside Image Interview with Keith Giffen, Dave Johnson, and Erik Larsen
I mentioned last week that I had recently uncovered some old issues of Inside Image. In addition to an issue with a Keith Giffen interview I also found this August, 1993 issue in which Giffen, Johnson, and Larsen talk about the then-new SuperPatriot mini-series (Amazon.com search*).
Now I’ve always loved that SuperPatriot mini-series from the first time that I read it, and this interview’s a blast for the sole reason that I get to go back and remember just how fun it was waiting for each new issue as they were published. Also, Johnson describing his art process was well worth the $1 I spent to buy this old book:
“Well, I lay out the page on a 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet of paper. Then enlarge it on our Xerox to 10 by 15, lightbox it, and ink it.”
Reading about artist tricks, even tricks over two decades old, always inspires me and makes me wish that I had time to draw these days.
