1996 AD&D Advertisement: “Come Back to Role-Playing!”

When Magic: The Gathering hit the industry, TSR was already under assault by growing competitors who were starting to eat into their position. TSR attempted to ride the collectible card game wave of 1994 and 1995, but things never did quite work out and by the time that this advertisement ran in a 1996 issue of The Duelist magazine, things were already pretty grim for the company.

If you haven’t read it, the 2004 book 30 Years of Adventure: A Celebration of Dungeons & Dragons* offers a look at TSR from around the time that this Advanced Dungeons & Dragons ad was published.
