Chatham Village Bears’ Mummy Dolls
During a recent trip to Hastings I grabbed a copy of Art Doll Quarterly, a magazine that presents dolls as art and the works of many artists. There are several fantastic works of art in the magazine (and I fully intend to write a reading post soon), but one that leaped out at me needed to be shared immediately.
What you see here are the dolls of Art Rogers of Chatham Village Bears. And while the dolls look amazing, it’s the magazine’s article in which Rogers discusses his techniques and tools that make these pieces all the more exciting. With a hell of a lot of work, skill, and imagination anyone could craft beautiful dolls going by the photos and tips given in the magazine.
But making dolls that look as spectacular as these? That’s going to take years of practice, an imagination that rivals the most creative artists working in any medium, and a design sense that is capable of blending the unusual with the cuteness that we see in these images.
Great work, and a very fun magazine!
