We Can Rebuild Him

So after months of lusting after the Toygraph Space Troopers toys one finally managed to find its way to me. Matt Doughty (Onell Design) mailed me a Space Trooper and that was a remarkably generous thing to do. (Matt is too generous. Thank you, Matt!)

Unfortunately, disaster hit the Space Trooper before I really got a close look at him. The poor soldier fell from the shelf and, before I figured out what had happened, the dog toy-like nature of the soft vinyl was fully abused by one of our dogs. I found the Space Trooper in the back yard with one arm chewed away, the backpack gnawed, and the head and helmet lying loose.

Very upsetting.

So when I chatted with Matt after this happened he suggested that the toy be rebuilt; used for custom work. And that’s what I’ve started. By dropping in a Gobon Blaster through the chewed backpack and created a base point to build from. I’m not finished, but here’s what I have so far.

More photos as the construction continues. I’m happy with the mechanical design, but now it’s time to paint the toy. I’m going to paint both the Space Trooper body and the Glyos parts, but that glow-in-the-dark head has to remain fresh and glowy.

And as soon as this guy is finished I’m shipping him back to Matt. It seems only right that the toy that was destroyed while in my care return to Matt for his personal collection of Glyos System customs.

  1. Very creative and cool. So many of my GI Joes got chewed up as a kid from my Grandmother’s dog. I was certain that she was working with the forces of Cobra!

  2. I heard about this particular catastrophe last night, and was wondering how long it would take to see pics 🙂 You nailed it. Can’t wait to see this guy with some Phil-Reed-Colors!

  3. It looks ten times better this way! I got to goof around with some of those guys that Krakit has, and, while they are quite cool, this is a MUCH better looking figure with the Glyos bits. AWESOME!

  4. Thanks, guys. Gina told me this morning that the back needed work (the dog chewed a hole in the back) so there are more upgrades in progress. And then the paint.
