Master of Potatoes Leads to Starriors

A post over at Poe Ghostal’s site eventually found its way pointing at Starriors (starriors.com, Wikipedia) which, as is likely to happen, pointed me at a bunch of fun things.

Let’s review!

Commercial

How can we not love the toy commercials of the eighties? Most of them included awesome animated segments, and those kids in the eighties had backyards that look more like sculpted, oversized playsets than they do normal yards.

Bill Sienkiewicz Covers for Sale

$5,000 gets you one of two different Starriors covers over at Bill Sienkiewicz’s website. Sienkiewicz pumped out some beautiful comic covers in the eighties (his Transformers #5 is easily the best of the Marvel series) and I love how these two look. Unfortunately, I don’t have $10,000 to spend on artwork.

Toys!

Finally, after commercials and comics, we find our way to starriors.com and tons of info and photos on the toys. Make sure to poke around the site because there’s lots of fun stuff; again I am reminded that in the eighties we were given art and not just photos. If I ever find myself creating original toys I swear I will use artwork on the packaging and not just photos.

What a great series. It’s too bad these are so expensive today or I’d grab a few of the toys.

I wonder who currently owns the rights to the toys and artwork.

  1. You should look into picking up the comic book series. I found mine for $1 an issue at a comic book shop. Great art and a pretty neat story. I had a few of these guys, and I LOVED them– most people nowadays have no idea what they are. Starriors need a comeback!

  2. I remember having 2 of these figures.I think the
first time I saw them was when I was 7 yrs old or
so,and I got one of them from Pic N Save, which is
now known as BigLots!,and the other I think was
    from Toys R’ Us.

    Memorieeeeeeeeeeeeeeees…………..
