Glyos Rig and Zoneye Custom Together
A few nights ago I had dinner with Matt Doughty (Onell Design) and Jesse Moore (Callgrim). In addition to some rough planning for an upcoming project — which I need to dive into ASAP — I also had the chance to play with the Rig (mentioned here) and Matt’s Zoneye custom (mentioned here). Wow, this Rig is going to be a customizers dream come true. It’s not quite a transforming robot toy, but there are enough different configurations to make it fun. And if you have two of them you can do just a little more.
I plan to create wings for one of these, because swept-forward wings mounted to the central hull of the toy would make an awesome spaceship. I’ve got to find a way to paint this vinyl before the Rig is released later this summer, because I think I’m going to love this more than the Armodoc. After all, this is out first officially-released Glyos System vehicle . . . and we all need vehicles for our action figures.
Both toys feel great in hand, and seriously make my own custom works look pitiful. The smoothness of the pieces, the weight, the paint on the Zoneye, these are really works of art and I will love my Rig once it’s released. But that Zoneye . . . damn, Matt has got to find a way to release this so that we can all have one.
After a few minutes of twisting, turning, and generally enjoying the toys I asked Matt about the parts compatibility between the two works. A couple of seconds later we were moving arms and legs around and figuring out just how cool it would be if both toys were in vinyl.
And just imagine, if these were both in vinyl then we could even bring Armodoc parts into the mix. What kind of insanity could we construct with all three of the toys using compatible parts? Man, who else here wants to see Zoneye come to vinyl? Comment here if you’d buy this guy in vinyl — I’d assume a $30 price tag based on its size in relation to the Armodoc. Maybe if we can get 100 different people to shout out interest in a vinyl Zoneye we can convince Matt to make it happen.
This is by no means an official petition, but if the demand if there then I don’t see how Matt can tell us no. And besides, it’s never bad for an artist to see how much we love his work. And this Zoneye needs some serious love.

At $30? Possibly could swing it, and the Zoneye sculpt is worth far, far more. But wouldn’t Matt have to nab permission first, as it’s a crossover piece?
@R – I don’t think permissions would be an issue at all. The bigger issue (I think) is whether or not there’s enough demand to make it all work. But none of this is official; this is just me drooling on a cool custom toy and hoping we can find a way to show Matt that there are enough people who want this to make it worth the risk. Tooling for toys is expensive.
