Spotted Online – Lord Straxus the Action Figure
Way, way back in the mid-eighties I read Marvel’s Transformers comic way every chance I got. Reading and rereading, I absorbed every issue, loving the story and artwork and finding it more fun than the cartoon series (but that was also a lot of fun). The biggest shock (for me) had to be the two issues in which Marvel turned their attention back to the homeworld of Cybertron. And it was in those issues — #17 and #18 — that I was first introduced to Lord Straxus, leader of the Decepticons on Cybertron.
Finally, over twenty years since Lord Straxus was first introduced to us, he’s coming to life as a Transformers toy in Hasbro’s new Generations wave. And Seibertron has pics. Okay, a couple of awesome things here. One, we’re getting Lord Straxus (now named Darkmount) and two, the Generations line is packed with goodness. Finally, after a year of Bayformers toys (some of which were cool, yes, but still movie-related) we’re getting more toys in the style of the Transformers Universe series that spawned the excellent Cyclonus (review here) and the pretty good Tankor (review here). Yeah, I knew the line was out there (I saw sneak shots at Toy Fair), but now that people are reporting finding this series it’s become reality.
I see lots of Transformers purchases for me this summer. I may just make my life easier and order sets online, like this Wave One Set at Entertainment Earth.* I know it costs a little more, but it sure would mean fewer headaches. But ordering the set would mean waiting . . . I hate waiting. ANy suggestions? Do I order a set online or take my chances hunting the stores?
“For millions of years, Autobots and Decepticons have waged war against one another for control of Cybertron. Today, you can bring home some of their biggest heroes with the Transformers Generations Deluxe Figures! These exciting toys transform from vehicle mode to robots which measure roughly 6-inches tall. They’re totally awesome! This batch of exciting robot warriors includes 4 individually packaged figures, including: Bumblebee (War for Cybertron), Optimus Prime (War for Cybertron), Autobot Drift, and Thrust”

Order it online I say! Especially if you want Thrust, as I don’t think he’s due to be repacked in the near future.
I don’t know, unlike lines like DCUC and Marvel Legends, I have had very good luck seeing any transformer that I want in stores…..eventually. So I’m just going to wait, but it would be nice to not feel compelled to visit every target, walmart, and tru I come across just to check what they have.
The first wave of Generations (no Straxus in this assortment) is hitting TRU now, so it will be a while probably before we see Darkmount on store shelves.
Thanks, guys. I should try to find a TRU here in Albuquerque today and see if wave one is on the shelves. I’d love to at least find a Thrust. And maybe that War for Cybertron Optimus Prime.
