IDW’s “5 Days to Die” Comic Mini-Series in September
I’ll admit it’s a gimmick to sell comics, but IDW’s upcoming five issue 5 Days to Die sounds like a cool enough gimmick that I may have to grab the first issue. With five comics published in five weeks, IDW’s plan is to capture the short attention span of comic readers by bringing us in every single week for the next installment in the series.
‘Coming in September, IDW Publishing introduces an exciting, month-long comic event for this five-Wednesday month. Created and written by Andy Schmidt, with art by Chee, 5 Days to Die is timed specifically in a five-Wednesday month, bringing fans back to the comic stores each week. New York Times best-selling author David Morrell calls the weekly series “hard-hitting, suspenseful, and innovative.‒
‘“The story really developed because I like old-school action thriller movies, full of noir and suspense,†said Schmidt. “Chee was the perfect artist to bring Ray’s heartache to life and he makes every punch, bullet, tackle, and hit leap off the page and smack you in the face. If you’re a fan of ‘Bullet’ or the original ‘Die Hard’ then this is the book for you.‒
The cover of the first issue looks good (even if it isn’t by the story artist), the story sounds like it could be entertaining, and the gimmick has captured my attention. (It kinda reminds me of when I was a kid and Batman would come out on a twice-each-month schedule in the summers. Does anything still do that with ongoing comic series?)
Anyone out there know if the Chee handling the art in this book is the same guy as CubbyChee at Deviant Art? It looks possible, since he’s worked with IDW on Transformers books, and TFWiki confirms it’s the same guy, but without seeing the interior pages of 5 Days to Die I can’t be certain it’s the same guy.
