Spotted Online – The Destruction of Beautiful Artwork

I’ve made my love of the old Aurora model kit box art well known, so you’ll no doubt completely understand when I say that this documentation of the art’s destruction is extremely distressing. The post is old — the damage even older — but it was still a bit sad to read when I happened to stumble across the info while searching for a better look at those old boxes.

We need someone to publish a book with all of these old paintings. We’re getting tons of reissue kits, but a book would be a great thing that would keep me happy for a long time.

  1. I spotted a Bama book that came out not so long ago or will come out.

But to the article: Most of the times he comparizes the “thumbnail”/colorsketches to the actual final artwork, which is kind of … well, you never know what the artists make out these approved sketches. What i have seen so far of Bama and other artists of his era that their color sketches almost looked like a final painting just 3 times smaller. And what is “cutted” is always what Bama intended to go arround the box when it’s folded, so he was quite aware that the sides to each will be cut away. whatever – love those boxes and Bama is definitely a great artist to learn of!
