Spotted Online – This Wasn’t in the Planet Hulk Animated Film

My only experience with Marvel’s Planet Hulk concept is a single watching of the Planet Hulk DVD*, which I really enjoyed. I hope Marvel goes on to give us a World War Hulk animated film, because I certainly don’t want to try to puzzle my way through their World War Hulk comics and trades*; that would just be a nightmare.

Anyway, having never read the Planet Hulk comics I have no way of knowing how the Silver Surfer works into the storyline, but I can fully appreciate this Silver Savage review at Chase Variant because the Surfer in this getup looks better than I’ve ever seen him before. The review does make it sound like this guy has the Beta Ray Bill role . . . Beta Ray Bill? I still can’t believe Marvel stuck that horse-faced alien Thor into an animated film. That’s insane!

  1. I think the Surfer wasn’t used because of licensing issues. I like Beta Ray Bill a lot, but I would have much rather had the Surfer in the cartoon.

I have that Surfer figure as well… got him dirt cheap on eBay loose… when people are putting together BAF’s they sometimes don’t care as much about the figure the part comes with. 🙂

  2. Oh… and don’t worry about the extra stuff in WWH… just read the trade that collects the main WWH story. You aren’t missing much by not reading the crossovers. It’s a colossal Mary Sue of a series, but it’s fun and has beautiful John Romita Jr. artwork.

  3. @Monsterforge – So I can read the trade on its own and not be confused? That would be a nice change. I went to try Blackest Night and the comic shop owner started explaining the order to read it in and I said “NO WAY!”

  4. Yeah, dude. It’s all there– there are all kind of side stuff that happens in the crossovers, but it was mostly meh stuff anyway. I will say, though… the Warbound series was pretty cool. Not necessary to the WWH storyline, though– it takes place afterward, but it’s nice to see what happened to the aliens after WWH.
