Spotted Online – “Bane Week” at It’s All True

It’s All True continues to slobber all over Mattel (as opposed to my usual spitting on Mattel) with “Bane Week,” a look at the Bane wave of DC Universe Classics action figures. Right now the Azrael Batman and Mercury: Metal Men reviews are online . . . and more is promised for the week.

To be fair, the Mercury review is less-than-glowing, but in general it often feels to me like just about every site out there loves Mattel and feels they can do no wrong. Sure, there are complaints about distribution and prices, but in the end the love for DC Universe Classics overcomes all obstacles. I guess it’s just what people like/dislike affecting their opinions; I know I’m guilty of being both over-critical and over-positive depending on if I really love the property or not.

Which, I guess, is why it’s best to look at multiple reviews from a variety of sources.

  1. 😀

The DC line has its aggravations, but I think the combination of it being the dream toy line for DC fans (we’ve been disdainfully watching Marvel fans get action figures continuously for twenty years) and the Four Horse sculpts are usually enough to overcome the paint and design flaws that Mattel inevitably instills in the figures.

That said, I do tend towards positive reviews over at IAT. I think I’m just more apt to talk about what I liked rather than what I didn’t.

  2. @NoisyDvL5 – I understand the talk about what you like over what you don’t. I’ve been accused of only posting positive reviews; I have posted negative, but more positive because I like to write about the things I enjoy.

And I don’t often read the comics at toy blogs. I hated the comics in the old Toy Fare magazine and don’t care much for any of them. I tried some comics for two reviews at Articulated Discussion but it’s really not my thing.

  3. Mattel is pure shit and the ONLY redeeming quality they have is their licenses (DC, Masters of the Universe.)

Their QC is abysmal, their distribution an absolute joke, and their online market a slap in the face to collectors. Not to mention their customer service.

Was that honest enough for you? 😉
