Spotted Online – 40 Years of Conan in Comics?

By my math this is actually the 41st year (Marvel’s Conan the Barbarian was first published in 1970), but the REHupa blog has posted:

Our pal Terry Allen over at the The Robert E. Howard Comics Group Facebook page reminds us of yet another anniversary in 2011: the 40th Year since Marvel Comics first published Conan the Barbarian.

Oddly enough, the bizarre math continues in this post at Go Comics where the post starts out with:

Celebrating its 40th anniversary (right alongside the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide) is Marvel’s Conan the Barbarian.

I’m at a loss to explain what is going on, but regardless of whether it’s the 40th anniversary or the 41st anniversary, Marvel’s Conan work started in the seventies and it’s still available today. Even though the Savage Sword of Conan collections may not be perfect (see Conan vs Creepy: How Dark Horse Robbed the Barbarian) it’s great for all of us that the stories are so easy to grab. Both the Savage Sword of Conan and the Chronicles of Conan series* are going strong and easy to find.
