Review – Paperclips of Steve Jackson Games

I have quite a bit of fun on Twitter (my Twitter account), but one of these days I’ll learn to stop making really stupid posts. How stupid do I get on Twitter? Well, a few days ago I made a mention of paperclips and that sooned turned into responses about the lack of paperclip reviews here at battlegrip.com. So ha, ha, we all got a good laugh out of then and I moved on.

But not Steve. No, the owner (and my boss) at Steve Jackson Games noticed the paperclip discussion and he decided to take it one step and handed me some paperclips from his desk. And not to be one to be unwilling to act stupid I now give you this review of the “Paperclips of Steve Jackson Games.”

The Plastic Clips

At about 1.5-inches, these plastic paperclips are larger than your standard office paperclip, but they’re quite fragile and not suited to holding more than a few pages at a time. And because they’re plastic — and have quite a bit of surface area — it’s only fitting that there’s some information printed directly on each paperclip. I am not completely certain when these were made — before I started working for the company in 1999 — but despite their age they still hold papers together.

The Metal Clip

As you can see in the photo, below, Mer-Man grabbed the massive metal paperclip and rushed me; I swear that blue Mer-Man is a lot more violent and dangerous than the green Mer-Man. The metal paperclip is 4-inches long, insanely sturdy, and this style of clip is perfect for holding more pages together than you want to even think about. There’s no way of knowing how many manuscripts have been held together by this clip over the years, but Mer-Man doesn’t look willing to sacrifice his new weapon so the clip may be forever lost.

Closing Thoughts

I walked right into this one. I should know better than to make silly statements online, because I happen to work at an office where the silliest of ideas often gets turned into projects.

The plastic paperclips are goofy and work okay for holding together small stacks of pages, but in a fight I want a few of those massive metal paperclips in my pocket because they’re gonna last a hell of a lot longer than the plastic clips.

And looking at those plastic paperclips makes me realize that it’s likely time for us to start creating more Munchkin office supplies.

Philip Reed tried to clip the plastic paperclips together to form a chain but they just won’t work like that . . . a strike against plastic and another reason to go with the giant metal clips!

  1. Aww man, you got Blue Mer-man. I was really hoping to find him when TRU was having their MOTUC 2 pack sale a few weeks ago. Sadly, just more Skeletors.

  2. @Newt – I got lucky with the Mer-Man and split the set. So all I had to do was PayPal some cash and Mer-Man came right to my house.

Fingers crossed that Mattel releases a purple Mer-Man.
