Review – DC SuperHeroes Knight Shadow Batman

Line: DC Universe * Manufacturer: Mattel * Year: 2007

A few days ago we looked at the DC SuperHeroes Batman action figure (review here), a stunning work that stands out as one of the better (despite its flaws) Batman action figures I’ve seen. Better, in fact, than the DC Universe Classics Batman* action figure.

Today we’re diving in to take a look at this variant on the DC SuperHeroes Batman. Basically just a repaint with a new head, this Knight Shadow Batman* was another gift from Matt Doughty (Onell Design) and is a gem in my slowly-growing collection of Batman action figures, toys, and statues.

A New Head

The one significant difference between this and the DC SuperHeroes Batman is the head; as you can see in the pics, this design has a full mask with white eyes and no facial features at all showing. It’s a smooth, simple design but it’s effective and makes this figure look quite different from the work it is based on. I couldn’t tell you which — if any! — comic this particular costume design is based on, but it looks cool to me and makes the toy really standout when setup with other Batman action figures.

Paint

Black and gray, there’s very little actual painted parts on this toy. Knight Shadow Batman* keeps the same utility belt as his ancestor, and the gray with silver paint on the belt and pouches is very well done. And the mix of shiny black on the boots and gloves contrasts nicely with the flat black on the rest of the body; overall, this figure’s paint app is excellent and other than a few minor blemishes I’ve got no complaints with the paint.

A Cool Revision on a Great Toy

Since we just looked at the DC SuperHeroes Batman action figure (review here) there’s not really much I can say that either hasn’t been said already or you can’t see in these photos. It’s a cool action figure, fun to pose and play with, and makes an interesting addition to the collection.

That said, though, it’s not so cool that I’m suggesting everyone run out and spend the bucks that are being asked for this toy online. If you can find this for $20 or less than grab it, but anything over that and I think you’re better off waiting to see if this toy is rereleased in Mattel’s Batman Legacy series (last mentioned here).

I’m happy I’ve got this toy, but if I had spent the $40+ I see at various sites online I’d be quite unhappy with myself. He’s neat, but not nearly that neat.

Philip Reed is now going to debate with himself whether or not he reviews another Batman toy or tackles something completely different.
