Review – Glyos System Rechlen
Line: Glyos * Manufacturer: Onell Design
I’m at the Onell Design offices today and uncovered an ancient, fun custom toy that makes me think it’s time we see human heads in the Glyos System. Here you can see Rechlen, one half of the duo featured in the Rechlen and Aves book that’s no longer available. But this one is special, since it has been customized beyond the original resin toy.
Ball-Jointed Crazy
Rechlen here has ball joints at his shoulders, hips, elbows, and knees, all of which give him a lot more poseability than you would expect to find in a toy that’s only about 2-inches tall. The neck and waist are swivels and as you can see it all comes together to make the small custom more maneuverable than his standard version (also shown in some of the photos here).
But You Can’t Have One
Rechlen hasn’t been available in years — and I don’t think he was ever sold in this configuration — but with any luck we’ll see this head makes its way to the Onell Design store. I’d be happy just to get the head — complete with the wild hair! — since it would snap beautifully into place on the Glyans (first review, second review). And I suspect I’m not alone in wanting the head. Or am I? Does anyone else out there even want this head produced for today’s Glyos System toys?
Enjoy the Photos!
Today’s going to be spent having fun so rather than make you suffer through more of my nonsense I’m leaving you alone with the Rechlen photos. I’d love to get this head mass-produced so that I can have several of them in unusual colors, but I know it’s expensive to create new molds so I’m likely to not get my wish.
I hope you guys like the shots (and the one digital illustration way down at the bottom).
Philip Reed knows that it’s mean to post photos of toys that no one can have.
That would be a cool extra head for Gylans, it’s kinda vampirish, especially if painted versions kept the red eyes. You can see a lot of elements from Rechlen here in the Gylans and various other molds too, it’s interesting to see toy evolution at work.
That head or similar, along with a re-issue of Rechlen and Aves, and the guy on the far left in the second to last pic should all be produced, plus a couple new sincroids/travellers.
I agree with Jason S. The green figure on the far left is pretty cool. Wasn’t he the “jello” monster we’ve seen on the Onell website?
That would be VOSS…my favorite of his vintage creations!!!
I too saw all these vintage goodies when I was @ Matt’s…droolin’ all over them.
TGB
Oooooooo!!! My favorite character from the original customs! Thanks for posting these… it’s HIGH time Matt made a production Rechlen!
FUN-FAX: The armor and “human” head of the Glyan looks almost identical to the images of Rechlen in his trapping armor from the book. Pull out a copy and compare it to the Glyan… the only difference is that Rechlen is wearing goggles and chewing on a Nillin stick.
I guess we “kind of” have a Rechlen figure already… kind of. 😉
