Matt Doughty Answers Your Glyos Questions
Last week a few of you asked questions about the Glyos System while I was visiting the Onell Design offices. Well, Matt Doughty has taken the time to provide answers to questions. I’ve posted the questions in bold, Matt’s answers in plain text, and my own comments (you knew I had to have comments) in italics. Hopefully you guys find the information (including the mention of a new vinyl toy) entertaining.
eatyourchildren – When and how will we see the Reproclaimer?
Matt Writes: The Repoclaimer was supposed to be the first vinyl figure, but was bumped so that the Armodoc could roll out. The reason for the bump was that the Armodoc factored heavily into the plans that we had at the time for story content. I have the master of the Repolclaimer about 65% completed and there is a good chance that it will eventually see the light of day (only after King Crayboth).
Phil Writes: For more on the Reproclaimer see this Glyos Transmission Web Log post. Great snaps and sketches of the spider-like creation.
Prince Crayboth – Will the Crayboth be getting any more love? For example, new colorways?
Matt Writes: New Crayboth colors are on track for early next year, maybe even in January.
Phil Writes: I can verify this. While out there visit Onell I got a peek at the mechanicals for the new Crayboth colorway. Cool stuff!
E – Will there be anymore metal heads made?
Matt Writes: Phil and I have been talking about another Battlegrip.com metal head crossover, so odds are very good that new metal noggins will appear within the next few months. Phil is the mastermind behind the entire metal head production system and he is the reason it is even a possibility! Not only can he beat the evil Uncle Fester Shock Machine, but he can make metal heads as well.
Phil Writes: I looked at a few different heads while I was at the Onell offices and Matt and I discussed producing the designs in metal. No metal solid plans at this time, but maybe sooner rather than later.
Alpha – Will standard colorways, like pheyden blue, return soon?
Matt Writes: “Standard” colors are also a topic that we talk about over here frequently. The Pheyden blue color is on track to be included in a an early 2012 release. Phase green has kind of mutated in tone over the years, but that color is also on target to return in the form of a Glyan and a few other characters in 2012.
Alpha – Hows that 4H OSM pheyden coming along?
Matt Writes: Eric from the 4H created a very cool “movie style” Pheyden head that he shocked me with at SDCC in July. As usual, his generosity and superhuman skill (seriously he is a freak of talent) produced something that made my mind go into overdrive, resulting in the need to see even more of this possible Neo-Pheyden. Hopefully we will see more of this possible crossover in 2012. Until then, the killer head that Eric designed and sculpted will remain in the shadows. At least until December.
Alpha – And personally I love Matt’s concept art, so can we see more? like anything at all?
Matt Writes: I really appreciate that you like my scribbles, juvenile as they are. I have an unholy amount of drawings, so maybe I will get my act together and post some more of them. Thanks for the kind words!
Phil Writes: Matt is too modest. I personally want to see a collection of his sketches and art in a book . . . and if he doesn’t make that book soon I’m gonna go back out there and scan all his art so I can make it myself.
Josh – Will you / can you create “parts or accessories†to use with the new Big Rig or standard Rig?
Matt Writes: As far as Rig expansion goes, we are feeling the same way as you are about beefing up the options. The “Block” project that has been in development for a bit over here will hopefully add some juice to the works. The Block is really strange and kind of boring upon first look (like everything I design), but once you start playing with it things become sort of fun, with some unexpected possibilities coming into focus. We’ll see how you guys feel about it in January.
Phil Writes: The Block is as expandable as your imagination. At the NYCC I had a few moments to look at the design and then last week I spent about an hour configuring vehicle and character designs that used the Block as a core component (even making a generator-like device that was almost a playset). I’m praying that dozens of these find their way into my house because, like the wooden blocks of childhood, the more Blocks that I have the more I’ll be able to build.
Thanks, everyone, for your questions. And thank you to Matt for taking the time to answer the questions and for sharing his home with me last week. I hope you guys got enough info on the future that you’re excited; I know that I want the Block as soon as it is available and now I want Matt to finish that Reproclaimer. Hell, I even went so far as to suggest a colorway for the beast (as you can see in the digital illustration I posted above).

The Reproclaimer looks interesting. I’m glad to hear more soft vinyl is on the way.
I’m totally on-board for a Repoclaimer. I love that over-sized forehead and the general look of it is really awesome. Doesn’t help that I’m a fan of toys that “eat” other toys. 😀
“The Block”?? I’m very curious about this one, can’t wait to see pictures of it when it gets closer to completion.
Thanks Phil!
Thanks for the answers!
You’re welcome, guys, but Matt deserves most of the thanks since he took time out of prepping new toys to answer the questions. And to share those Reproclaimer pics!
That was awesome!
Do Crayboth understand concepts like joy or happiness?
They do now! 🙂
Thanks for the news – I’ll start saving my spores!
