Spotted Online – Interview With the Creator of Bertie
There’s a short interview with Moopf over at ToysREvil in which the artist (see his artwork here) shares the history of his paper toy creation, Bertie.
It’s nice to see the paper toy movement continue to grow, especially since it appears to be all about designers giving away their work so that everyone can have the chance to put together the toys. It’s a real change from the vinyl and resin designer toys, since most of those toys are actually pretty expensive.
Free vs. expensive. Which better fits today’s economic times? Of course, the designers need to earn a living so I’m not quite sure how the paper toy designers transform their work into feeding the family, but maybe they can leverage their work into profits by selling original artwork. Anyone out there know how these guys turn free downloads into profit? Or are most of the paper toy designers doing this as a hobby?
