Transformers Collectors’ Club Credit Fraud
When the Transformers Collectors’ Club put Runamuck and Shattered Glass Drift up for sale there were problems with their shopping cart which resulted in me attempting five times before a card finally went through. “Excellent,” I thought, and then returned to life.
Well, not quite so excellent. It turns out that something went horribly wrong with their site and I’ve now been forced to cancel a all five credit cards after it turned out that the problems with their shopping cart resulted in my card numbers being used without my permission. Some of the recent charges over the last few days included:
- $1,200 at Lowes.
- $261 at Wal-Mart.
- $233 at Dell.
- $441 at Best Buy.
And that’s just since Sunday. I’m now reviewing all five cards to see if anything else was charged without my permission.
This is a major hassle and could cause more problems in the future. So far the club hasn’t really stepped up and taken ownership of the problem, but I’m far from the only person having problems and others who used the site that day are also having serious credit fraud problems or average or poor credit.
See this post at Seibertron.com for suggestions on what you should do to protect yourself if you’re also stuck dealing with these headaches.
Now I wait for the new cards to arrive, and then I’m stuck going around and updating information to the new card numbers. A huge frustration, but I think the issue was caught early enough that it won’t be devastating to my credit and bank account.
I’m so sorry Phil.
It’s an bigger problem then just the last sale. I let my membership expire in december, and I still got hit. Indications are their entire database of current and former members/buyers was compromised, along with login and password information, complete payment information, all in clear text.
It’s a massive fiasco, and I will never have anything to do with FunPub again.
First indication of a problem was back in January:

It’s only gotten worse from there.
@Seth L – Wow, that seriously sucks. I wonder how deep this problem will go.
This thread is worth reading through too, has all the official statements:

They go back and forth on what’s wrong, admitting a problem, not admitting a problem, and I was especially irritated by a backhanded mention of iTunes hacks in the last one, since one company compromising user data means they all can, right?
it’s just not the Transformers Club, members of the G.I. Joe Collectors Club (ran by the same company) have had their cards “stolen” even me.
I do not think this is the first time either. It seems right around the time i do any order with them every time my card gets stolen.
Credit card thief is a big deal and FunPub needs to be more fore coming and admit it happened much sooner next time and I will bet it will happen again.
