Spotted Online – RETRO TOY FLASHBACK # 87: Star Wars Droid Factory (Kenner; 1979)

It seems fitting that a week about robot toys would include at least a mention of the Kenner Droid Factory toy from the late seventies. This chunk of plastic, with a crane and lots of little droid parts, was one of Kenner’s more creative releases for their Star Wars toy series.

This post at Reflections on Film and Television is an entertaining read, and it even pointed me at a commercial that I had never seen before.

I’d love to find a complete Droid Factory playset, but there were so many tiny parts that even when I was a kid — and the toy was relatively new — I didn’t have every single piece to it.

  1. Not a week yet. It started on Sunday and there are two more days to go. I just had lots of fun robot material to play with and post so it feels longer.

I hope this doesn’t mean that you’re not enjoying the week, though.

  2. Oh no, I’m quiet enjoying it. For some reason I thought the TRIP and HK were last week.

    Thanks for clearing that up.
