The Great Monster Magazines
I only grabbed one thing today at GenCon, and if the review at Famous Monsters of Filmland is any indication then I probably should have skipped it. But when I saw The Great Monster Magazines* at the McFarland booth there was no way I was going to miss it. After all, when the subtitle is “A Critical Study of the Black and White Publications of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s” I have gotta at least give the book a chance.
What I find especially interesting is that the book admits to being primarily about the Marvel magazines that came into existence after Warren Publishing found success with Creepy and Eerie magazines. And while the review at Famous Monsters of Filmland isn’t all that flattering I’m still looking forward to reading the book. Maybe I’ll tackle it tonight after my last meeting is over; I can use some time to relax and monster magazines may be just what I need tonight.
