Spotted Online – Transformers Generations Warpath Review at CollectionDX

Boom! I may not have posted my own review of the Transformers Generations Warpath, but for some nice pics and a discussion of the toy’s design and quality I point you at this review at CollectionDX. And do not miss the comments section where reader “Wallas” writes:

For me, Warpath is a great transformer that is one of the only Transformers to have show-faithful transformation that leaves him with absolutely no kibble (by far his selling point) , but a pretty boring toy.

Can a toy look great and be a bad toy? I think yes, but click through to see if this comment transforms into a discussion about toys and playing with toys.

  1. It’s an interesting hypothesis.

Do a lot of people love Trailbreaker/Cutter, or do they want him just because he doesn’t exist in Deluxe form to display with all the rest of our Classics?
People were dying for a Thunderwing, but who was one of the biggest shelfwarming toys of the last few years?

I think that the reality is that we all like ten characters – Jazz, Prime, whatever – out of a pool of maybe fifty characters from G1. And then we each have our own special characters – for me, Skyhammer, Chromedome, Topspin and Twin Twist, Roadbuster – that we clamor for to be made again. It’s great to add a Warpath – but for me, he is just filling out a shelf.

I’ve been prepping my Botcon stuff for a sale, and it amazes me that out of the sets before the G2 redux set, there was approximately one figure I had a second thought about selling – and it is the WORST choice. 🙂 Landshark from the Kup set. It makes no sense. But he’s the only one that I had that feeling of “don’t sell this!” Not Alpha Trion, or Weirdwolf – but a completely new character.

  2. I don’t know, I have the United version and I really like him. I was on the fence about getting him, but then he showed up in WFC and FOC and I kinda started liking him a lot again. All of my characters are “shelf fillers” because I usually only have on on my desk at a time and its not like I’m “pew pew Pew” playing with them, I just like to pose them in action poses while I’m working, and Warpath is pretty darn pose-able.

  3. Is it possible for Hasbro, through sales data, to identify their top ten characters of all time and then just focus on those from now on? Maybe they already have.
