Spotted Online – Incredible Wood Carvings by Charles Ponstingl
I never would have heard of Charles Ponstingl if not for Matt Doughty (Onell Design). Recently, during a long phone conversation that covered everything from cardboard playsets to the amazing wonder that is Playmates’ new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line, Matt was telling me all about carved wooden objects that were painted and assembled to form elaborate and unbelievable works of art. Matt’s descriptions made all of these sound stunning, but his descriptions in no way really made it clear just incredible the work actually is.
But then do verbal description of the work could really make you understand what these look like. You’ve got to see them . . .
Above is just one of a number of wood-carved artworks that are all on display at Carving the Comics, an extensive gallery of the work of Charles Ponstingl. Disney fans MUST at the very least look at the section covering Disney’s “Snow White” because that alone will suck you in and have you soon exploring the entire site and all of Ponstingl’s works. This material should be in a book!
funny I just saw this on the Onell Blog and also reposted the link!
