Toy Spaceship Designs by Kam Wah Wei
I recently stumbled across three patents from toy designer Kam Wah Wei for toy spaceships that I didn’t recognize at all. All three patents were filed in 1999 for Wah Hing Toys Development Co. and searching online eventually led me to this toy at hktdc.com which appears to be one of the three patented toys. Unfortunately, I never found any photos of the other two toys or any good information on the series.
First up is a small fighter with cool wings that sweep forward and start to curl around the cockpit. I couldn’t find any images or information on this toy, but the Take Apart Space Fighter Interceptor description says the parts of that toy are interchangeable with the others in the series which makes me wonder just how the toys looked once you started swapping pieces around.
Next is what appears to be the largest of the three spaceship toys, and if the Take Apart Space Fighter Interceptor description is accurate then these toys were scaled for 3.75-inch action figures which means that this would have been a fairly hefty toy. Not too big to be unplayable, but clearly larger than the previous design.
The third and final of the three toy spaceship designs by Kam Wah Wei is the only one that I could find online, the the Take Apart Space Fighter Interceptor shown at hktdc.com. First up we’ll look at the patent drawing. Looks to fit in nicely with the other two designs.
And next we’ll look at a photo of what appears to be the actual toy that was based on the patent drawing. Definitely toy-like colors and design, I have to admit that the toy photo isn’t anywhere near as cool as the patent drawings made me think it would be. But I think a lot of that has to do with coloring and I suspect that if someone customized and weathered this toy it would look pretty sweet.
Any Information?
Poking around online I couldn’t find any more information on these three toy spaceship designs, so that leaves me asking all of you for assistance. If anyone recognizes these and can direct me to more information on the toys I’d appreciate the help. Please leave a comment, below, or you can e-mail me through the contact page here at the site.
If I do get any useful information about the line I’ll be sure to share with all of you.
