Retooling the G.I. Joe H.I.S.S. Attack Scout to Create a New Star Wars Mini-Rig
Hasbro, this one is aimed right at you. In yesterday’s post about new G.I. Joe vehicles (posted here) I mentioned how the H.I.S.S. Attack Scout looks quite nifty. Reader Iok of That Figures weighed in to share a link to his review of the H.I.S.S. Attack Scout and that soon had me realizing that with a little work Hasbro could retool this vehicle into a new Star Wars Mini-Rig.
Jawa Sand Scout
By removing the rear cannon, dropping a mechanical arm in its place, tooling a new cockpit that fits one or two Jawa action figures, and presenting the toy in browns similar to the old Sandcrawler toy (see rebelscum.com) Hasbro can assemble a fantastic little Jawa Sand Scout that would be perfect for searching Tatooine for any mechanical scrap or abandoned droids. Package the “new” vehicle with a small droid and a Jawa action figure and I think this would be a winning set that would make a lot of classic Star Wars fans quite happy.
Which G.I. Joe Vehicle Would You Retool?
I’ve made my suggestion, now let’s hear what you have to say. If you could choose one G.I. Joe vehicle from Hasbro’s releases over the years to adapt and retool to create a new Star Wars Mini-Rig which one would it be? How would you make minor changes to the toy to bring it in line with the Star Wars universe and give fans another small vehicle in the line?
With the cost of steel increasing toy designers need to be more creative than ever in how they rework existing designs, so maybe if we all brainstorm together we’ll come up with something that Hasbro actually uses to devise a new Star Wars Mini-Rig. It would be quite cool to be able to point at some future release and say “I suggested that!”

Thanks for sharing the link!
And you’re right, it would be a superb Jawa vehicle. It wouldn’t be the first time lines had shared vehicle designs/pieces.
Brilliant idea! I wasn’t as ravenous a Joe collector, so I don’t know the vehicles as well, but now I feel like I should comb the web looking for older GI Joe vehicles to hack!
Actually, a while back I picked up a shuttle craft from the Crusader playset that I plan on turning into a Quinjet for an Avengers heroclix game.
@Jay – Thanks, Jay. I was digging through some older G.I. Joe designs and starting to think I could write a post that lists five old G.I. Joe toys that, with some tweaks, would make fun Star Wars toys.
@Iok – And we need more Jawa stuff in the line!
Damn skippy! I remember Jawas (and later Yoda) being impossible to get as a kid. I was fortunate enough to find TWO but I always wanted (oddly) the one with the plastic cape, rather than the cloth-caped ones I had…
