Visiting the Fantasy Flight Games Event Center

Yesterday’s main meeting (the primary reason for the trip to Minneapolis) went amazingly well, and once that was over we had a chance to visit a few spots in Minneapolis, including a visit to see friends over at Fantasy Flight Games where I finally had time to visit the official Fantasy Flight Games Event Center. Woah. Now that’s one hell of an impressive game store. Lots of game space. Clean. Brightly lit. The shelves loaded with more games and accessories than I could ever play.

Inside the store I took a few photos for those of you who never get the opportunity to visit the store, played a game, got a sneak peek at the space for this weekend’s Star Wars game events (event announcement at FFG), and I even scored a copy of the latest Data Pack for Android: Netrunner (Amazon.com search*).

After the visit was dinner, where nerdery and geekdom were discussed — as well as industry chatter that always happens when I go out to dinner with anyone who works in the game industry — and a fun time was had by all. The next time I’m in Minneapolis I’m paying better attention to the Event Center calendar; I should have scheduled an extra few days here so I could have attended the Star Wars event this weekend.

  1. FFG is the one spot I’ve yet to visit. I’ve stopped by a few times only to find it was before/after hours.

  2. A few years ago, when I was working for the government, I was sent to a series of meetings in Roseville. Imagine my surprise when I found out I would be just around the corner from FFG’s Event Center! Spent three nights there playing games.

What a great place! Everything is set up and maintained so nicely. And while they do sell some product, they certainly didn’t emphasize that.

  3. After reading this post yesterday I ventured out again to poke my head in and was really impressed with the set up. They’ve got lots of really well-built terrain for gaming and it’s stocked with games from FFG as well as other publishers. Thanks for posting about it Philip!

  4. @David Miller – I hadn’t even made the connection, but you’re completely right: the store’s focus felt more like on playing games than selling games. They had way more table space for gaming than shelf space for product.
