“Optimus is Becoming a Super Powermaster!”

Marvel’s comic commercials in the eighties may have been better ads for the toys than Hasbro’s toy commercials. For proof I suggest watching this commercial for issue #42, People Power! (See the TFWiki for more.) I can totally remember buying this issue at the comic store; at the time, I wasn’t following the series all that closely and instead buying an issue every now and then. But, not surprisingly, the promised return led me to grab this comic over . . . hmmmmm. I think I was forced to choose between this and an issue of Iron Man at the time.

What is really sad is that despite being owned by Disney we don’t see comic commercials from Marvel on television these days. Am I the only one who wishes the company would sink some cash into advertising on television in an attempt to lure in some new readers?
