Review – DC Hot Wheels Bane
I think by this point I’ve made it clear I absolutely love Mattel’s DC Hot Wheels toy cars. From the moment I first saw the cars last year I’ve been impressed with the vehicle designs, and as I pop more of the packs open and get them displayed — we need a new display case in the house; there are more cars than the current case can hold — I grow more and more in love with the line. To the point that it’s tough to be objective; the entire series is just so damned awesome that I cannot be sure if it’s my mind or if the cars really are this neat.
Clearly the Banemobie
As with the Hot Wheels Killer Croc toy car (review here) I can say this Bane car was obviously designed around the classic Bane character. And yes, I can say “classic” since the first appearance of Bane was over two decades ago. You’re welcome. I know how much everyone loves it when I remind them how old we are. (For fun, remember that Superman died over twenty years ago and Image Comics formed over twenty years ago. Again, you’re welcome.)
Anyway, back to the car. What makes this Bane is how the windows and hood were inspired by the character’s mask. And the thick, meaty feel of the car also fits well with the bruiser body DC gave Bane when they created the character over twenty years ago. (Yeah, I’m rubbing the age thing in.) Another really nice touch are the hoses on the back of the car; can we assume that this car is fueled by Venom?
Awesome Tires
Another part that gives this car its beefy look are those fat, monster truck-like tires and wheels. The gray tires and wheels work far better visually than I would have thought if someone had simply described the look to me. But see there for yourself in the pics: those tires and gray!
Closing Thoughts
The Bane car is another fantastic addition to the DC Hot Wheels toy cars and I hope that Mattel continues this line beyond the toys they have already released. I’d love to see a Clayface car, and a series inspired by the Arkham City character designs wouldn’t be bad at all.
The entire line is based on a simple idea, but Mattel’s execution has been flawless and I’m now thinking that even the Superman car needs to be on display . . . as soon as we get a second Hot Wheels display case here at home.
I somehow think blue would work better for the translucent pieces but this is by far my favourite design of the Hot Wheels you’ve done so far.
@Court – I kinda like the Mister Freeze design best (I should review that soon), but this Bane is a close second.
